Acceptable Use Policy

Orthodoxy, Inc.  ·  Effective April 23, 2026

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") is incorporated by reference into the Terms of Service and governs all use of the Orthodoxy platform and related services (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to this AUP. Capitalized terms not defined herein have the meanings given in the Terms of Service.

1. Permitted Uses

The Service is designed for use by licensed attorneys, paralegals, law clerks, and other legal professionals acting within the scope of authorized legal practice. Permitted uses include:

  • Researching, drafting, reviewing, and managing legal citations in connection with client matters.
  • Generating, reviewing, and signing off on quality-check workflows for citation governance.
  • Producing compliance certificates and draft exports for client deliverables.
  • Collaborating with other Authorized Users within the same Firm on shared matters.
  • Using AI-generated output as a starting point for attorney review — not as a substitute for independent professional judgment.

2. Prohibited Uses

You may not use the Service to:

2.1 Illegal Activity

  • Violate any applicable law, regulation, court order, or professional conduct rule.
  • Facilitate, plan, or conceal any fraudulent, deceptive, or criminal activity.
  • Submit content that infringes any copyright, trademark, trade secret, or other intellectual property right.
  • Process personal data in a manner inconsistent with applicable data protection law or the Data Processing Addendum.

2.2 Unauthorized Access and System Integrity

  • Attempt to circumvent, bypass, or defeat any access control, authentication mechanism, or security feature of the Service.
  • Access matter data, sessions, citations, or other resources belonging to another Firm or to Authorized Users outside your Firm.
  • Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any Orthodoxy system or network without prior written authorization from Orthodoxy.
  • Introduce any virus, worm, Trojan horse, malware, or other harmful code into the Service.
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to extract data from the Service in bulk without Orthodoxy's prior written consent.

2.3 Misuse of AI Output

  • Represent AI-generated output as independently verified, confirmed, or attorney-certified without completing the Service's quality-check sign-off workflow.
  • Submit AI-generated citations to a court, regulatory body, or opposing counsel without independent attorney review and verification.
  • Use the Service to generate content designed to deceive a court, tribunal, or regulatory authority.
  • Remove, suppress, or alter any AI Limitations Disclosure that the Service attaches to exported content.

2.4 Professional Conduct

  • Share access credentials with individuals who are not Authorized Users under your Firm's subscription.
  • Use the Service on behalf of a client in a matter for which you have a conflict of interest that has not been properly waived.
  • Use the Service to store or process content protected by another firm's attorney-client privilege without authorization from that firm.

2.5 Service Availability

  • Take any action that imposes an unreasonable or disproportionate load on Orthodoxy's infrastructure.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service or the data of other customers.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any portion of the Service.

3. Reporting Abuse

If you become aware of any violation of this AUP — including unauthorized access to Firm data, misuse of AI output, or conduct by an Authorized User that violates this policy — please report it promptly to support@orthodoxyapp.com.

Orthodoxy will investigate all reports in good faith and take appropriate action. Reports made in good faith will not result in adverse action against the reporting party.

4. Enforcement and Suspension

Orthodoxy reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to take any of the following actions in response to a violation or suspected violation of this AUP:

  • Issue a written warning to the Firm Admin.
  • Temporarily suspend the Authorized User's access pending investigation.
  • Permanently terminate the Authorized User's access.
  • Suspend or terminate the Firm's subscription in accordance with the Terms of Service.
  • Report the conduct to applicable law enforcement or bar disciplinary authorities where required by law or professional conduct rules.

Where practicable, Orthodoxy will provide prior notice of a suspension and an opportunity to cure. However, Orthodoxy may act immediately and without notice where the violation poses a security risk, a risk of harm to third parties, or a risk of legal liability.

5. Updates to This Policy

Orthodoxy may update this AUP from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to Firm Admins by email at least fourteen (14) days before the effective date of the change. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated AUP.
